CARAMELISED ALMOND KERNELS - USES AND CONSUMPTION:

The edible seed produced by the almond tree is a prized nut with a refined taste. This nuts, typical of Sicily, besides being characterised by a high protein intake, contains only 5% saturated fat and is cholesterol-free.

 

It is rich in numerous vitamins, such as B2, PP, B1 and vitamin E, as well as mineral salts, including magnesium, calcium, copper, phosphorus and zinc. Almonds are also rich in dietary fibre, very useful for maintaining the balance of intestinal bacterial flora and the proper functioning of the colon.

 

Caramelised almond kernels are a real treat, ideal to enjoy at any time of day, wherever you are. The processing of three simple ingredients - almonds, water and sugar - yields an excellent energy reserve and an excellent sweet, giving caramelised almonds a unique and irresistible flavour that makes you want to eat one after the other.

 

It is said that, in some areas, pralined almonds are known by the name 'addormentasuocere'. Apparently, it was a common custom, when going to a girlfriend's house, to bring these sweets as a gift to her mother: in this way, the mother-in-law would not have the chance to disturb the sweethearts, as she would have been too busy melting them, slowly, in her mouth to risk ruining her teeth, and sometimes even falling asleep.
